Life NoW was inspired by a visit to Helen and Douglas House, Oxford, in October 2007. Sister Francis, the Founder of both houses, said Douglas House was the only Hospice for young people in the country; this single statement initiated exploration of similar provision for young people in the Cumbria, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cheshire, the Isle of Man and North Wales. Visits to children’s and adult hospices in these areas and further afield followed in the ensuing years.
In January 2009 a small group of people met to consider how this may be progressed. This group became Life NoW. This name was chosen because we want to affirm Life; it also incorporates the geographical area of our focus, the North West of England. In October 2010 Life NoW became a Company Limited by Guarantee and on February 14th 2011 became a registered charity.
